Things to See & Do in Belize
These are the days I plan around. Where to stay for each one is on the area page, so this page stays with the activities.
On the water
Snorkelling and diving are why a lot of trips include a caye. Hol Chan is the straightforward reef trip from Ambergris Caye. Longer boat days go out to the Blue Hole, Turneffe, and Lighthouse Reef. On Caye Caulker, the Split is the easy swim.
From Placencia, a reef morning is a different departure. The days I would do again are written up on their own.
Favourite day trips from Placencia

Inland
San Ignacio is the base for Maya sites, caves, waterfalls, wildlife, and jungle lodges. Xunantunich is the ruin to read about first if the inland days are the point of the trip.
Cave tubing and a zip line are the other inland days people ask about. Which ones belong depends on how many bases you want.
Beach days and village time
On the mainland, the slower days are the beach, local restaurants, and, in Hopkins, Garifuna drumming. The area pages are where those villages are spelled out.

Passing through Belize City
Belize City is usually the connection: Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport in Ladyville, water taxis to the cayes, or a few hours off a cruise ship. It is rarely the long stay.
