Ireland Trip Ideas & Inspiration

Ireland overview

These are shapes, not packages. Ireland goes better when each base gets enough nights that unpacking is worth it, and when the weather is allowed to change the day.

Ways to spend the time

  1. About 7 nights: Dublin and Galway — Three nights in Dublin and four in Galway. This is the first-trip shape I would start with: the city, then the west, with the car only for the second base. Dublin Galway and the west
  2. About 10 nights: Add Kerry — The same Dublin start, then Killarney or the Dingle Peninsula with a car. Not both peninsulas. Ten nights is the shortest version that still feels like a holiday. Kerry
  3. Slower: One coast — A week in one west base, with day trips when the weather is kind. Fewer famous names, and a trip that does not feel like a timetable. The west
  4. About 7 nights: Cork and the harbour — Choose the south when food and harbour towns matter more than the cliffs. Cork, Cobh and Kinsale are the chapter. Add them to the west only when you have ten nights or more. Cork and the south What to eat

Is Ireland right for this trip?

A good match if

  • You want coast, green country, music and walking, and you can live with rain
  • You would rather know two places than drive past ten
  • A car on the west sounds like part of the holiday, not a chore

Maybe look elsewhere if

  • You want a beach week with reliable heat — the Caribbean pages are a better fit
  • You are hoping to do Dublin, Kerry, the Cliffs, Cork and Northern Ireland in seven nights
  • You would rather not drive, and you also want the peninsulas

Keep planning
