Portugal Trip Ideas & Inspiration
These are ways to shape a trip, not fixed packages. Portugal is compact, and the train between Lisbon and Porto takes about three hours. Tell me how you like to travel and I’ll adjust the days.
Ways to spend the time
- 8–10 nights: Lisbon, Sintra and Porto — Four nights in Lisbon with a day in Sintra, the train north, and three or four nights in Porto with a day in the Douro Valley.
- 10–12 nights: Cities and the Algarve — Lisbon and Porto as above, then a few nights on the Algarve coast for beaches and boat trips before flying home from Faro or Lisbon.
- 5–7 nights: Wine country and Porto — Porto plus a couple of nights at a wine estate in the Douro Valley, with tastings, river views and slow lunches.
- Add a country: Portugal plus Spain — Flights and trains link Portugal with Spain, so Lisbon or Porto pairs well with Seville or Madrid. Spain planning
