Dominican Republic Trip Ideas & Inspiration

Dominican Republic overview

These are ways to shape a trip, not fixed packages. A great week can be one resort, or a route through two very different regions. Tell me how you like to travel and I’ll adjust the days.

Ways to spend the time

  1. 7 nights: An all-inclusive, chosen well — Punta Cana, Bávaro, Cap Cana or Bayahibe, chosen for the beach, the resort’s size and layout, and whether you want adults-only or family-focused.
  2. 10 nights: Colonial Zone plus beach — Two nights in Santo Domingo’s Colonial Zone for history and food, then a week on the beach on the east coast or in Bayahibe.
  3. Winter: A Samaná whale week — Fly into Samaná El Catey or Santo Domingo, stay near Las Terrenas or Samaná, and add whale-watching and El Limón — a quieter side of the country.

Is the Dominican Republic right for this trip?

A good match if

  • You want a great-value all-inclusive with lots of choice
  • You are travelling with a family or group
  • You’d like to add history, mountains or whale season
  • You want non-stop flights from your Canadian city

Maybe look elsewhere if

  • You want a small island you can explore on your own by bus
  • You want a guarantee of seaweed-free beaches in summer
  • You prefer English-speaking destinations outside the resort

Keep planning
