Where Will You Escape the Winter This Year?
· Heather Crozier
The days are getting shorter, the air is starting to cool, and before we know it, winter will be here. That means it’s almost time to start planning your escape somewhere warm.
Where should you go to escape the winter?
There is no wrong way. Choose an all-inclusive Caribbean resort if you want everything taken care of, Belize if you want beach time mixed with reef, jungle, and Maya sites, or the Mediterranean for sunshine, coastal scenery, and great food. Start planning before popular resorts and flights fill up.
The days are getting shorter, the air is starting to cool, and before we know it, winter will be here. That means it’s almost time to start planning your escape somewhere warm.
But what does your perfect winter vacation look like?
Do you love the simplicity of an all-inclusive resort, where everything is taken care of and your biggest decision is whether to sit by the pool or walk down to the beach? Or do you prefer a vacation with a little more balance—slow mornings and relaxing afternoons mixed with local food, culture, and adventure?
There really is no wrong way to escape the cold.
The Caribbean Is Always Calling
For warm weather, beautiful beaches, and clear turquoise water, the Caribbean is an easy place to start.
Maybe you're dreaming of Jamaica, where you can relax at a beachfront resort one day and explore waterfalls, local restaurants, or mountain scenery the next. The Dominican Republic and Mexico are also popular choices for travellers who enjoy the convenience of an all-inclusive vacation with plenty of optional excursions nearby.
If you're looking for something quieter, islands such as Antigua, Saint Lucia, Barbados, or Curaçao each offer their own mix of beaches, culture, food, and adventure.
Of course, Belize will always be one of my favourite recommendations. It's perfect for travellers who don't want to choose between the beach and adventure. You can snorkel along the reef, explore ancient Maya sites, hike through the jungle, visit waterfalls, and still make time to relax beside the Caribbean Sea.
Belize makes it easy to create a vacation that feels like more than one trip.
Resort Relaxation or Local Adventure?
Some vacations are meant for doing absolutely nothing—and honestly, sometimes that is exactly what we need.
An all-inclusive resort can be a wonderful choice when you want a simple, relaxing escape without having to plan every meal or activity. You can unpack once, settle in, and let the outside world disappear for a few days.
But perhaps you want a little more freedom. You might prefer a smaller hotel, a locally owned beachfront stay, or a trip that combines multiple destinations. A few peaceful days by the water can be paired with food tours, snorkelling, hiking, historical sites, or exploring a nearby town.
Your vacation doesn't have to be completely relaxing or packed with activities. It can be both.
Maybe Your Warm Escape Isn't in the Caribbean
When we think about escaping the cold, the Caribbean often comes to mind first—but it isn't the only option.
Perhaps you can picture yourself in the south of France, walking along the Mediterranean with a coffee in hand. Maybe you're dreaming about the Greek islands, the coast of Spain, southern Italy, Malta, or Portugal.
Depending on when you travel, some Mediterranean destinations may not offer the same tropical heat as the Caribbean, but they can still provide sunshine, coastal scenery, incredible food, and a welcome change from a Canadian winter.
And sometimes the destination calling you isn't one you've considered yet.
Start Planning Before Winter Arrives
Popular resorts, preferred room categories, and convenient flights can begin filling up well before the snow arrives. Starting early gives you more choices and more time to create a vacation that fits your budget and travel style.
You don't need to have every detail figured out before reaching out. That is where I can help.
Whether you're imagining an all-inclusive week in the Caribbean, a Belize vacation filled with relaxation and adventure, or a Mediterranean escape somewhere completely different, we can create a trip that feels right for you.
So, where would you go to escape the winter?
Somewhere peaceful where you can completely switch off? Somewhere adventurous with plenty to explore? Or somewhere that gives you the best of both?
Whatever kind of warm escape you have in mind, let's start planning it before the first snowflake hits.
Your kind of escape is waiting.
